Kitting and assembly are services that are offered by many 3PL providers. It’s the act of packaging items that arrive as separate pieces into a single grouping.

Kitting is when separate pieces are assembled into single kits, which are usually pre-built in batches. It allows you to have a kit that is ready to ship as soon as a customer places an order. As a business owner, you must hire knitting and assembly amenities to avoid delayed shipments, items packaging, and interrupted transportation procedures.

Unlike regular orders, where you typically can’t predict what customers will order before they complete a purchase, kitting is used when a certain combination is known in advance.

Assembly is the process of packaging the individual items that make up a kit. Once assembly is complete, your kit is ready to be shipped, so you have less work to do once an order is placed.

Kitting & assembly services are usually performed at stations where fulfillment staff kit in bulk to improve efficiency and streamline the fulfillment process.

Fulfilled by most third-party logistics (3PL) providers, kitting and assembly refers to the process of compiling individual parts of a product together into a “kit” and delivering it to the production operation for assembly and shipment.
