1. Certain foods can cause heartburn. Common causes are beverages containing caffeine such as tea, coffee and most sodas, fried and fatty foods, tomatoes and tomato products such as sauce pizza sauce, and soup, alcohol, citrus fruits and juices such as orange, lemon and lime.
2. Eat smaller meals more frequently. A full stomach will put extra pressure on the sphincter between the stomach and esophagus. Stop eating when ¾ full. This is also a technique to lose weight!
3. Do not eat within three hours of bedtime. Give your body time to process food in the stomach before bedtime. If you experience heartburn after bedtime, elevate the head with a pillow.
