An air compressor is one of the major energy consumers in utility and industrial operations. They are mainly classified into many different types.
Rotary Air Compressor
In this type, the air is compressed by two rotating or inter meshing rotor. Rotary air compressor (which is also called luftkompressor in the Norwegian language) is further classified into two categories one is rotary screw compressor and other is rotary vane compressor.
Rotary Screw Compressor
Air is compressed between two rotating screw (male & female screw) and casing. Compression takes place gradually reducing the space between the two sections.
Rotary vane compressor
Air is compressed between the casing and rotating the rotor with the aid of the moving rotor blades. Air Compressor type can be further classified as Single or Double Stage Rotary Stage Air Compressor.
Dynamic Type Air Compressor
Dynamic Air Compressor type mechanical speed delivered into the air. This action is produced by impellers rotating at high speed, in a closed casing. Air is forced into the volume decreases. The volumetric flow will vary inversely with the pressure difference across the compressor.
Centrifugal Air Compressor
In Centrifugal Air Compressor, an impeller mounted on the shaft and positioned within the housing, which consists of the inlet channel, volute and a Diffuser. Air velocity can embed the high-speed rotation of the impeller.
Roots Blower Compressor
This type is generally referred to as a blower. Air discharge pressure obtained from very low engine types. The discharge pressure of 1 bar can be obtained in a single stage and a pressure of 2 bars is obtained from the 2.
Discharge pressure is achieved by two rotors which have a separate parallel axis and rotate in the opposite direction. This is an example of Positive Displacement Rotary Type Air Compressor in Compressor.
