Buying overhead crane is an expensive decision so that the crane is used usually at least to be considered as an option. Obviously it is a cheaper option on the surface, but is it really cheaper? Here are some questions to consider.

Is the manufacturer still in business? There are a lot of consolidation, closures, and bankruptcies in the crane industry. Are you going to be able to get parts for your crane?

But, many of the cranes have components that are specifically made for the crane manufacturer and do not use standard components.

You may have to make modifications to the components to make the parts fit retro-fit properly. Many crane manufacturers require special spindle motor, contactors, shoe collector, the electrical system for a couple who may or may not be available names.
